AKRON, Ohio – The Miami University women's basketball team (8-10, 1-5 MAC) fell by a 70-62 margin at Akron on Wednesday.
The senior duo of
Lauren Dickerson (20 points) and
Savannah Kluesner (21) each recorded a 20-point game to lead Miami's offense. Kluesner added 13 rebounds to register her ninth double-double of the season, tying for the seventh-most in program history for a single season.
The RedHawks took an early 4-0 lead two minutes into the game on baskets from Dickerson and Kluesner, but the Zips would tie the game at six at the first quarter media timeout.
Akron ended the quarter on a 14-2 run as Miami's shooting dropped to 20 percent in the first quarter. The RedHawks faced a 16-8 deficit after 10 minutes.
The Zips extended their lead to 10 after three minutes of play in the second quarter before a 6-0 run by the RedHawks cut Akron's lead to 22-18 with 5:24 to play in the first half. Miami's first three-pointer of the game sparked the run.

The RedHawks trimmed the Zips' lead down to two points before three quick baskets from Akron forced Miami to take a timeout with three minutes remaining in first-half action. Dickerson capped scoring in the first half with a three-point shot to become the first RedHawk in double figures.

The Red and White faced a 35-28 deficit going into the locker room.
Miami made two quick shots to begin the second half as Kluesner reached double figures with a layup less than a minute into the half. Akron put together a 9-2 run to increase the lead back up to nine points with 5:35 to play in the third quarter.
The RedHawks had the next six points as the Zips' lead was back down to three with four minutes remaining in the quarter. Miami cut the Akron lead down to as little as one with two minutes to play. The RedHawks outscored the Zips 21-16 during the third quarter to trim Akron's lead down to 51-49 after 30 minutes of action.
Two points was as close as Miami would get as Akron had the 19-13 advantage in the final quarter of play.
The Zips scored the first five points in the fourth quarter. Both teams hit a scoring drought as the score was stuck at 68-61 for nearly three minutes of game time. Kluesner and Dickerson each reached the 20-point plateau in the final Miami push.
The RedHawks are on the road again this weekend, making the quick trip to Muncie, Ind. to face Ball State. Tip-off on Saturday is scheduled for 1 p.m.
