WICHITA, Kan. – In its first competition out of the break, Miami's collegiate synchronized skating team cracked the 100-point mark and won the Midwestern Championships in dominant fashion on Saturday night.
The RedHawks cracked a total score of 100.32 with their 'Me and My Girls' themed free skate. MU skated a clean program and earned a 50.32 component score with a 50.00 element score. The defending national champion's score won the competition by nearly 15 points as Adrian took second with an 85.71.
"Today was a strong and energetic skate, especially coming off the break," head coach Carla DeGirolamo said. "Our technical calls were strong and now we will work on cleaning up the element shapes, unison and performance to keep increasing our score through the rest of the season!"
Miami's lone score above 100 last season came when it won its 19th national title with a 104.68. The RedHawks' senior team gets their schedule going for the program's next competition as they head to Europe for the Leon Lurje Trophy in Gothenburg, Sweden on Jan. 24-25.
