The RedHawks will head to Nashville for their first meet of the new year.
OXFORD, Ohio - After more than a month-long wait, the Miami University track and field team will get back to work on the indoor season this weekend as the 'Hawks head to Nashville for the Vanderbilt Invitational on Friday and Saturday.Â
Several Miami women's athletes got their first taste of indoor action in December at Bowling Green, with many newcomers impressing in their first collegiate appearances. On the track, freshmen Kayla Walters, Elena Pazman, and Gabby Cossio all earned event wins. Miami will have a larger contingent in attendance this weekend, as a full women's squad will include the likes of Olivia Bechtel (200, 400), Sarah Bruns (60h, 200), and Walters (60h, 200) will run in the sprints while most of Miami's distance runners will return to the track after the end of the cross country season. In the field, Hannah Falcione and Elise Walker both had event wins at BGSU and will be among the RedHawks at Vanderbilt.
This will be the first indoor appearance for the men's athletes. Sprinters such as Jeremiah Hunter (60, 200), Luke Finnegan (60, 400), and Ivan Dye (200, 400) will see their first action of the new year while Sean Torpy joins many of the RedHawk cross country runners on the track for the meet's distance events. A full list of entrants is linked above.
This time out, the 'Hawks will get to experience competition in a deep, strong field that includes 18 women's teams and 17 men's squads. Several power conference schools and nationally-ranked squads are included in the list of entrants, including the likes of Indiana, Mississippi State, Oklahoma, Miami (FL), Georgia Tech, Ole Miss, and Vanderbilt.
The meet is slated to start Friday at 5 p.m. ET/4 p.m. CT with the first few field events, while several track events will run later that evening. Saturday will see a full slate of action, with the slate of events kicking off in the morning and running through the evening.
Live results will be available for the meet at the link above.
After returning from Tennessee, Miami will then turn towards its first of three straight weekends in Indiana as the RedHawks will compete in the Gladstein Invitational on January 24/25.Â
