Miami ran in Nashville on Friday and Saturday.
NASHVILLE, Tenn. - The Miami RedHawks track and field squad got back to business Friday and Saturday with their first meet of 2020 at Vanderbilt.
After a few women's athletes got their season started at Bowling Green in December, Miami brought a larger group to Nashville to run in the well-attended invitational, which got underway Friday evening before a day-long slate of events on Saturday.
The Miami women garnered three top-three finishes - Katie Vitou finished second in the 5000m Friday night for the highest placing of the week, running a 17:16.4. Emily Akin had a standout performance in the mile in her first appearance on the track for the RedHawks; she ran a 4:52.11 to take third in a stacked 42-runner field. Olivia Bechtel had a good showing in the 400, recording a time of 55.63 for third place herself.
The Miami distance medley relay team grabbed a top-five Friday night, putting together an 11:46.9 run for fourth. The RedHawks also had two other PRs on the weekend from McKenna Fry (3K) and Jordan Grant (800).
Over on the men's side, Luke Finnegan had one of the more impressive days of any RedHawks as he hit two new personal records in the 60m (6.94) and 400m (49.88). Anthony Camerieri was another one of the notable performers, as he led a strong Miami group in the 3K with a ninth-place finish (8:22.04).
The men's distance medley relay team also took first in a shortened field on Friday.
Miami will begin its string of three-straight weekends in Indiana next weekend when the 'Hawks run at Indiana's Gladstein Invitational.
