Balanced RedHawks Dominate Tigers in Series Opener

Six Miami players scored with 12 recording points in a 6-1 win at Colorado College.
Six different RedHawk (6-10-3, 3-5-1-1 National Collegiate Hockey) skaters scored as they notched their second-straight victory with its most lopsided win of the year.
The Tigers went on the power play less than three minutes into the contest, but the RedHawks blocked five shots to leave the contest scoreless. After CC had a slim 3-2 shot advantage at the first media timeout, MU would counter with a 9-2 stretch of shots on goal to keep the pressure in the offensive zone. That pressure paid off at the 5:34 mark when Jack Clement snuck in from the right point and ripped a shot past Ryan Ruck for his fourth goal of the year. Phil Knies fed him for the goal and Matt Barry picked up a secondary assist for his first Miami point as the Red & White took a 1-0 lead.
Moving in from the point, @jackclement20 blasts one home. @mattyice2197 with his first Miami point on the play.

Miami took a 2-0 lead with 7:31 to go in the first when it caught Ruck out of position as he tried to come out of the net and play the puck away. After Chase Pletzke slung a puck that was blocked in front of the open net, the puck caromed off John Sladic and eventually was fired home by Ryan Savage for his fifth goal of the year.

As the period wore on, CC went on another power play with just over three minutes to go until intermission. It was MU who made a dent on the scoreboard, however, as after Knies cleared the puck to the Tigers' blue line, Derek Daschke corralled the puck away from a Colorado College skater and went in for a shorthanded breakaway goal to stake the RedHawks to a 3-0 lead after 20 minutes.
As we wait for period 2, let's marvel at this shorty by @derekdaschke

A new goaltender for Colorado College did not stop the onslaught as Chase Pletzke converted his fifth goal of the year on a rebound from a Bray Crowder shot at the 1:42 mark. Ben Lown also added an assist as Miami snagged a 4-0 lead.
The Tigers nearly got on the board just over eight minutes into the frame as Christiano Versich got to the net and put one in, but collided with Ryan Larkin in the process and officials waved the tally off. Nevertheless, CC found the net a couple minutes later when Chris Wilkie flung a shot through heavy traffic and in to make it a 4-1 game with 9:19 remaining in the second.
Undeterred, the RedHawks answered thanks to the play of Matt Barry. After a point shot got tipped wide by Knies, Lown collected the loose puck beneath the goal line and fed the transfer forward a centering feed where he buried his first goal at Miami to make it 5-1.
Keep that puck, @mattyice2197 buries his first as a RedHawk to put us back up 4!

Miami was tasked with killing another penalty and survived a Colorado College player hitting a post to keep its four-goal lead intact before CC took two penalties in the final 10 seconds of the period to allow MU to move into the third with a prolonged two-man advantage.
The RedHawks wasted little time in adding to their lead with the 5-on-3 as the top line of Gordie Green, Casey Gilling and Karch Bachman got into the action for the first time. The trio worked the puck well and eventually Gilling found Green for a backdoor goal. His ninth of the year made it a 6-1 game and capped the scoring.
Tic-tac-GOAL for @gordie_green!!

Miami fired a season-high 42 shots while yielding just 26 in the victory. Twelve Miami skaters recorded at least one point with Barry (1g, 1a), Pletzke (1g, 1a), Lown (2a) and Knies (2a) posting multi-point efforts. The RedHawks went 1-for-4 on the power play while killing off all five Tigers' power plays. Larkin finished with 25 saves on the night, including a breakaway stop on reigning National Player of the Month Chris Wilkie.
Just a breakaway save on the National Player of the Month.
