Ramasamy makes run to consolation semifinals while Rico and Myers each post three wins.
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The RedHawks wrapped up play at Indiana's Hoosier Classic on Sunday while Brindtha Ramasamy finished her run at the Oracle ITA Masters as Miami tennis concluded its second two-event weekend of the 2019 fall season.
Over in Malibu, Calif. at the ITA Masters, Ramasamy went up against several of the top players from across the nation. She began play Thursday with the first round of the mixed doubles draw, falling with her partner Jannik Opitz of Western Michigan 7-5. She then began her singles campaign, starting with a loss to Hawaii's Petra Melounova.
Ramasamy bounced back on Friday, knocking off Stony Brook's Jamie Wei with ease in the first round of the consolation bracket. She continued her run the next day to advance to the consolation semifinals after being Shir Azran from Fresno State in two sets, but fell later in the day in her semifinal match.
Meanwhile in Indiana, a pair of RedHawks in Makenzie Myers and Laura Rico turned in perfect 3-0 weekends. Myers beat a pair of Xavier Musketeers over the first two days before finalizing her undefeated week with a grinding three-set win over a MAC foe in Western Michigan's Valerie Riegraf. Rico also opened up Friday with a win over a Xavier opponent then had a hard-fought three-set win on Saturday against Marquette's Giulia Turconi. She put a cap on her weekend with a two-set win over Lexi Kubas of the host Indiana Hoosiers.
Rico also found success in doubles, winning three matches over the weekend with her partner Milana Lysova.
The RedHawks will reconvene next weekend with the team playing at Northwestern's Wildcat Invitational from October 4-6.
