Tennis Wraps Up Weekend at Northwestern

Rico and Babunski among the standouts for Miami.
EVANSTON, Ill. - Another busy weekend on the courts was finished up by the Miami tennis team today Sunday as the RedHawks wrapped up play at the Northwestern Wildcat Invitational. In addition, Brindtha Ramasamy competed at Tulsa in the ITA All-American Championships.
Ramasamy played in her opening round pre-qualifying match Saturday looking to advance to the qualifying phase of the tournament, and kicked things off with a two-set win over Wyoming's Maria Oreshkina. However, she would fall in the next round, ending her run in the tournament.
Over in Illinois, Friday at the WIldcat Invite featured a long list of singles draws. Laura Rico and Lena Babunski were among the highlights for Miami, as both won their pair of opening matches to make it to the finals of their draw. Rico picked up a pair of wins over Big Ten opponents while Babunski breezed through both of her matches in straight sets. Makenzie Myers, Janelle Ghanem, and Melati Devi each one a match apiece.
Saturday featured two flights of doubles matches, with the teams of Rico and Myers and Devi and Milana Lysova competing. Rico and Myers won a pair of consolation matches after dropping their opening matches, and Lysova and Devi picked up a single victory.
Sunday concluded the singles draws, with Rico and Babunski falling in their flight finals.
The RedHawks will take a week off before making the trip to the ITA Ohio Valley Regional Championships.
