RICHMOND, Ky. – A balanced scoring attack and strong defense let the Miami soccer team end exhibition play with a. 4-0 win at Eastern Kentucky on Sunday.
Four different RedHawks found the back of the net as they finished the exhibition schedule an unblemished 2-0, with both victories coming via shutout.
"Today was a great team effort," head coach
Courtney Sirmans said. "Any time you can score four and get a shutout is a great day. As a staff, we were pleased with how dynamic we were up front. On defense, we liked our leadership on the back line. Reagan was able to keep our line tight and allow us to be able to keep our shape and get going in transition."
MU got two goals 1:40 apart beginning in the 13th minute. The Red & White outshot the Colonels by a 7-4 count while also withstanding four EKU corner kick tries to maintain their 2-0 bulge at the half. Miami then added markers in the 69th and 88th minute to cap the scoring.
Seventeen players saw the pitch for Miami as it outshot Eastern Kentucky 14-9 on the afternoon.
The RedHawks open regular season play on Thursday night with a quick trip to Dayton. Opening kick is slotted for 7:30 p.m.
