Baseball Hosts Cincinnati for Final Midweek Contest

The Miami University baseball team has its final midweek game of the season as it welcomes Cincinnati to McKie Field at Hayden Park on Tuesday. First pitch is at 5 p.m. and it will air live on RedHawks All-Access for those who have a subscription.

ABOUT CINCINNATI
Cincinnati is 22-25 this season. It was swept last weekend by American Athletic Conference leading and eighth-ranked East Carolina, but all three games were relatively close. The Bearcats are led by senior outfielder AJ Bumpass. He is hitting .251 with four home runs and 30 RBIs. Another key hitter has been junior shortstop Joey Bellini. He hitting .299 with 14 RBIs on the year. On the mound for UC on Tuesday will be freshman Nick Murray. He will be making his first start of the season. He has appeared in 12 games and has a 3-1 record with a 3.91 ERA and 14 strikeouts in 25.1 innings pitched.

SERIES WITH CINCINNATI           
Miami holds a 103-69-1 record in the all-time series with Cincinnati. The teams have split both of their meetings this season, each of which was played down in Cincinnati. On April 10 in the championship game of the Joe Nuxhall Classic, Miami had leads of 6-1 and 8-4 before UC scored four in the bottom of the eighth to tie the score. Senior pitcher Cole Gnetz came into the contest in the bottom of the ninth and kept the Bearcats off the board until Miami was able to secure the victory with four runs in the top of the 11th. Gnetz was named the Nuxhall MVP for his efforts. The teams met again six days later on April 16. This time the RedHawks built a 5-1 lead early, but the Bearcats scored 14 runs over a three-inning span to take a 15-5 victory.

UP AHEAD
The final home weekend is upon Miami as it hosts Western Michigan for a three-game series. The Friday contest begins at 5 p.m., the Saturday game will start at 4 p.m. and on Sunday, first pitch will be at 1 p.m. Prior to Sunday's game, the RedHawks will hold their Senior Day ceremonies.
