ATHENS, Ohio – The Miami University baseball team dropped the middle game of its series to Ohio on Saturday, 4-3. The RedHawks are now 33-13 on the season and 13-7 in the Mid-American Conference. The Bobcats are 16-27 overall and 10-10 in the MAC.

It was a pitchers' duel early as neither team could manage anything over the first three innings. With one out in the top of the fourth, junior catcher Cal Elvers doubled to left field. A single to center field by redshirt junior left fielder Kyle Winkler moved him to third. A fielder's choice ground out by senior right fielder Mackay Williams scored Elvers and put Miami on the board.

Ohio would strike for two runs in each of the next two innings off the RedHawk starting pitcher, junior Spencer Mraz, to take a 4-1 advantage. Mraz settled down and kept the Bobcats off the board the rest of the way. He finished allowing four runs on nine hits in 7.0 innings pitched. He struck out eight.

Williams pulled Miami to within one in the top of the sixth when he was able to clear the right field wall for a 2-run home run that made it 4-3. The RedHawks were able to get base runners on in both the seventh and ninth innings, but were unable to get the tying run across.

Williams finished the day 1-for-4 with three RBIs and one run scored. Winkler led Miami with two hits.

The rubber match between the RedHawks and Bobcats will take place Sunday at 1 p.m. in Athens.
