The MAC’s Most Valuable Performer will run the 800m in Austin in two weeks.
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Day two of the NCAA East Region Preliminary saw another Miami University track and field competitor punch a ticket to nationals.
Sean Torpy clinched a spot at the NCAA Outdoor Championships in the 800m when he posted a time of 1:49.72 to take eighth in the competition. He is the second Miami competitor to advance to nationals this weekend, joining Danielle Collier, who clinched in yesterday's javelin.
This is Torpy's first career nationals appearance.
Also in action for the Red & White on Friday was Olivia Bechtel, who finished 18th in the 400m after clocking 53.15. She will anchor the RedHawks' 4x400m relay Saturday night (9:25 p.m.).
Torpy's weekend isn't finished yet, as he will join his twin brother Christopher Torpy in Saturday's quarterfinal of the 1500m (6:45 p.m.) as they both look for nationals bids in that event as well.
