OXFORD, Ohio – The Miami University softball team (28-14, 13-4 MAC) travels to Highland Heights, Ky. on Tuesday for a non-conference doubleheader at Northern Kentucky (17-28, 10-10 Horizon). First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m.
REDHAWKS EARN THIRD MAC SWEEP
Miami took both games in the Battle of the Bricks at Ohio this past weekend, shutting out the Bobcats in game one by a 9-0 margin before winning game two by a 6-1 margin. This is the RedHawks' third series sweep in conference play this season.
Courtney Vierstra pitched the complete-game shutout in the 9-0 win while
Lily Wilmot led Miami's offense. Wilmot went 3-of-4, with two of her hits being home runs, and had six RBI - the most of any Miami player in a single game this season. This is the first time this season an individual RedHawk has hit more than one home run in a single game.
Brianna Pratt earned the victory in the circle for game two, pitching six innings.
Morgan Lott led the offense, going 3-of-4 with two RBI, a double and a home run.
RECORD BOOK RANKING RECAP
Despite being only a sophomore, Vierstra is now ranked eighth in career strikeouts in program history with 355. Her 194 strikeouts this season ranks seventh in single-season strikeouts in program history.
Senior
Johniann Wahl broke into the top-10 for hits and at-bats last weekend. Wahl is now tied for ninth in program history with 171 career hits and is 10
th in program history with 590 career at-bats. She already is the career leader in doubles, home runs, RBI and walks.
OPPONENT PREVIEW
Northern Kentucky holds a 17-28 overall record and is an even 10-10 in the Horizon League. Last weekend, the Norse lost the series at Detroit Mercy but were able to win one game. NKU lost game one by a 2-3 margin before being shutout 0-4 in the first game of Saturday's doubleheader. The Norse took the final game of the weekend by a 6-4 margin.
Taylor Ginther leads the NKU pitching staff in ERA (2.56), wins (11), appearances (33), games started (27), complete games (18), shutouts (2), innings pitched (185.2), strikeouts (84) and opponents' batting average (.273). Ava Lawson leads the Northern Kentucky offense in batting average (.311), slugging percentage (.432), on-base percentage (.372), hits (41), doubles (13) and is second in RBI (21).
