Campaign goal exceeded with more than $82 million raised; celebratory auction gala raises additional $275,000
OXFORD, Ohio – Miami University completed its successful Graduating Champions campaign in style, as more than $82 million was raised in support of intercollegiate athletics. Capping the historic campaign was A Night for Red and White, an auction gala that raised an additional $275,000 that will help support the Red & White Club, the annual scholarship fund for Miami student-athletes.
"I would like to thank our dedicated volunteers and supporters, both internally and externally, for making this night possible and ensuring that our Graduating Champions campaign ended on the high note it deserves," said David Sayler, Director of Athletics. "I would also like to thank Jon Schemmel and his staff for bringing something new to the table and making it a fantastic, first-class event that celebrated the campaign's success and our student-athletes, and highlighted needs for our department moving forward."
Students, coaches, alumni and fans turned the ballroom at Cincinnati's Hyatt Regency red and white to mark the occasion. Over 400 people attended the live event, including more than 50 Miami student-athletes and 100 coaches and staff.
"This night was all about connecting our student-athletes and our supporters," said Jon Schemmel, Associate Athletic Director and Senior Director of Development. "It was amazing to see so many Miamians come together in red and white to celebrate. To see this kind of energy is truly special, and we look forward to future engagement efforts in the Cincinnati area."
Auction items reinforced the impact of Miami University's legacy in the professional sports world and included an experience with John Harbaugh '84, a day of golf at Muirfield Village with Jack Roslovic, and special items donated by all active Miami alumni playing in the National Hockey League as well a two-day VIP experience at the 2020 Masters.
The Blavatnik Family Foundation acted as the presenting sponsor of the event. Other sponsors included: Haslam Family Foundation, Enterprise, College Sports Solutions, American Axle and Manufacturing, The Job Center Staffing, TriHealth and Coyote Logistics.
The mission of the Graduating Champions focuses on providing guidance and support to Miami students committed to their unyielding pursuit of academic and athletic excellence.
So far in 2018-19, Miami Athletics has garnered six conference championships through the winter season. In addition, the cumulative GPA of student-athletes in the fall was 3.26, extending the current streak of more than 13 consecutive years above at 3.0 GPA.
