The Miami University baseball team returns to the site of last week's Joe Nuxhall Classic Championship as it heads to Cincinnati for a rematch with the Bearcats on Tuesday. First pitch is at 6 p.m.
ABOUT CINCINNATI
Cincinnati is 16-19 so far this season. It is coming off a series win, having taken two out of three over 22nd-ranked Connecticut on the road. The Bearcats are led by senior outfielder AJ Bumpass. He is hitting .255 with three home runs and 16 RBIs. Another key hitter has been junior shortstop Joey Bellini. He hitting .367 with 12 RBIs on the year.
SERIES WITH CINCINNATI
Miami holds a 103-68-1 record in the all-time series with Cincinnati. The RedHawks have won three straight against the Bearcats, including a dramatic 12-8, 11-inning thriller to win the Joe Nuxhall Classic Championship last Wednesday. Miami had leads of 6-1 and 8-4 before UC scored four in the bottom of the eighth to tie the score. Senior pitcher
Cole Gnetz came into the contest in the bottom of the ninth and kept the Bearcats off the board until Miami was able to secure the victory with four runs in the top of the 11th. Gnetz was named the Nuxhall MVP for his efforts.
MIAMI RANKED IN POLL
The NCAA recognizes four different polls for its national rankings of Division I baseball teams. Three of those polls released their new rankings on Monday with Miami ranking 28th in the Collegiate Baseball Top 30. The RedHawks have one more chance to be ranked as the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association Poll is released on Tuesday. The Red and White have been in the "Others Receiving Votes" category of that poll for the past two weeks.
UP AHEAD
After a long road trip, Miami returns home to face Ball State to McKie Field at Hayden Park this weekend in a series between the top two teams in the Mid-American Conference standings. The game on Friday, April 19 begins at 5 p.m. and is the RedHawks' annual Walter "Smokey" Alston night. On Saturday, April 20, the game will start at 4 p.m., while on Sunday, April 21, first pitch is at 1 p.m.
