OXFORD, Ohio - Coming off another 2-0 weekend, the Miami women's tennis team (8-10, 4-1 Mid-American Conference) will return to the road for its penultimate match of the 2019 season with a Saturday match at Bowling Green. The RedHawks and Falcons will square off at 1 p.m. at the Keefe Courts in Bowling Green.
LAST TIME OUT
Miami went 2-0 for the second straight week, posting home wins over Toledo and Dayton. The RedHawks took down the Rockets 4-3 in a tight one, getting the clinch from
Makenzie Myers at sixth singles.
Brindtha Ramasamy and
Emily Struble were Miami's others singles winners. The match with the Flyers wasn't as close, as the RedHawks earned a straight 7-0 sweep. Ramasamy, Struble,
Milana Lysova,
Jordan Ortega-Mendez, and
Janelle Ghanem all had singles wins in that contest.
MATCHUP WITH THE FALCONS
Bowling Green has played .500 tennis in the 2019 season, coming into the match with a 9-9 overall record. BGSU is 2-3 in conference play, with wins over Toledo and Northern Illinois and losses to Buffalo, Akron, and Ball State. Paula Comella leads the Falcons at the top of the singles lineup, while Maharita-Sophia Tavpash and Polina Radeva round out the rest of the top three. The RedHawks took down BGSU 6-1 last season, and hold a 43-5 record against the Falcons all-time.
MAC STANDINGS CHECK
With two matches to play, the 'Hawks control their destiny in the conference, leading second-place Western Michigan (3-1) by a half-game. The RedHawks and Broncos will meet in Oxford for the last match of the year. Behind WMU, Buffalo, Akron, and Ball State all sit at 3-2.
LOOKING AHEAD
As mentioned above, the RedHawks will return to Oxford to close out the season against Western Michigan on Friday, April 19. The match, which could potentially be the decider for the conference regular season crown, is scheduled for 1 p.m. at the Miami University Tennis Courts.
