Kalita and Devi earned singles victories for Miami.
ORLANDO, Fla. - In the second leg of its Florida trip, the Miami University women's tennis team dropped a 5-2 decision to the Penn Quakers Saturday at the USTA National Campus. The RedHawks fall to 2-9 with the defeat.
The Quakers would start doubles with 6-2 win on the second court, but the RedHawks quickly answered back with a win on the third court as Makenzie Myers and Janelle Ghanem combined for a 6-4 victory. However, Penn would still claim the opening point with a 6-4 win at first doubles.
Three consecutive two-set wins on courts two, five, and one clinched the match for Penn, and a follow-up victory for the Quakers in a three-set battle on court three made it 5-0. However, Miami would get on the board in the last two matches of the day. At sixth singles, Melati Devi won a third-set tiebreak to take down Penn's Jennifer Richards. Similarly, Priyana Kalita won a match that featured tiebreaks in every set, including a 10-8 tiebreak in the deciding third set. These two RedHawk wins closed out the match with the 5-2 scoreline.
