Miami takes all six singles matches to win 6-1.
HAMILTON, Ohio - A dropped doubles point didn't seem to faze the Miami tennis team Saturday as the RedHawks blitzed through singles matches to take a 6-1 victory over the visiting Wright State Raiders. MU improves to 3-9 with the win as the 'Hawks now turn their attention towards conference play.
The doubles point was claimed by Wright State to kick off the match, as the Raiders earned decisive 6-1 victories on courts one and two. Brindtha Ramasamy and Makenzie Myers were ahead 4-3 on court three at the conclusion of the other two matches.
The RedHawks evened the match early into the singles session, as Melati Devi grabbed a 6-1, 6-1 win at sixth singles to knot things up at one. On court two, Milana Lysova also closed out her match in straight-set fashion, defeating WSU's Pelayo 6-3, 6-3 and giving Miami the 3-1 match lead.
Over at first singles, Ramasamy bounced back from a tough first set and turned it on for the last two where she rolled through the Raiders' Craciun, taking the match by a final scoreline of 4-6, 6-1, 6-0 and putting the RedHawks on match point. The clincher would come from senior Emily Struble, who, like Ramasamy, overcame a first-set loss to claim her match by a score of 4-6, 6-1, 6-2. This gave Miami the requisite four points needed to seal the win.
Two matches concluded after the clinch, starting with Makenzie Myers winning a tough three-set victory after winning a tiebreak in the second. Her final scoreline was 4-6, 7-6, 6-0 over Wright State's Whitney at fifth singles. To close out the match, Priyana Kalita won a three-setter by a 7-6, 6-1, 6-4 scoreline and gave the RedHawks the 6-1 victory.
