Miami Hosts Akron to Conclude Regular Season

The RedHawks will celebrate the seniors before the 2 p.m. tip-off.

ON TAP: Miami (21-7, 12-5 MAC) wraps up the regular season at home on Saturday. The RedHawks host the Zips at 2 p.m. for senior day and fan appreciation day. The game will be broadcast live on ESPN+ and Miami College Sports Live as well as RedHawk Radio. Miami will honor the senior class before the game.

LAST TIME OUT: Miami lost a heartbreaker to Ohio on Wednesday, losing 66-70 after an impressive second-half rally. The RedHawks trailed by 23 points at halftime and came back to tie the game twice in the fourth quarter. Lauren Dickerson and Kristen Levering combined for 32 points, all in the second half. Dickerson had a team-high 18 points, while Levering added 14 points and eight rebounds. Leah Purvis and Savannah Kluesner joined the double-figure scorers with 13 and 11 points, respectively. Kluesner added 12 rebounds for her eighth double-double of the season.

ABOUT AKRON: The Zips (16-12, 7-10 MAC) have clinched the No. 8 seed in the MAC Tournament and sit at fifth in the East Division. Akron has lost its last two games, both at home by 10 points, to Ohio and Kent State. The game against the Golden Flashes went to overtime. Megan Sefcik leads the Akron offense with 16.9 points per game while Shaunay Edmonds scores 11.7 points per game. Haliegh Reinoehl averages 8.2 rebounds per game.

SERIES WITH THE ZIPS: Miami leads 38-16 in the all-time series against Akron, taking the last five. The RedHawks have a 19-9 advantage in Oxford. On Feb. 16, 2019, Miami won in Akron by a 67-61 margin. The RedHawks had a two-point lead at halftime but a strong defensive third quarter held off the Zips. Kluesner earned a double-double by scoring 13 points and grabbing 10 rebounds. Dickerson and Purvis both reached double figures with 15 and 10 points, respectively. Reinoehl led Akron with a double-double, scoring 12 points and tallying 11 rebounds. Sefcik and Caitlin Vari also scored in double figures with 12 and 14 points, respectively.

LOOKING AHEAD: The MAC Tournament starts on Monday, March 11 with four games at conference sites. Miami clinched a first-round bye and will play its first game of the tournament on Wednesday, March 13 in Cleveland at Quicken Loans Arena.
