The Miami University baseball team continues its homestand as it welcomes Youngstown State to McKie Field at Hayden Park this weekend. The series begins on Friday with a single game that will start at 3 p.m.
That start time has been moved up two hours from the previously scheduled 5 p.m. start. On Saturday, the RedHawks and Penguins will play a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m. The series concludes Sunday with first pitch at 1 p.m.
ABOUT YOUNGSTOWN STATE
The Penguins are 0-9 on the season, but have had a brutal opening schedule. The first three weeks they have been swept by No. 9 Mississippi State, No. 6 Florida State and Tennessee Tech, which was one game away from making the College World Series in 2018. Youngstown State has been outscored 95-21 in its nine games this year. A bright spot for the team has been senior first baseman Trevor Wiersma. He is hitting .276 with three home runs and seven RBIs. Friday starter, sophomore left hander Colin Clark is 0-1 with 5.28 ERA and 10 strikeout in 15.1 innings pitched.
SERIES WITH YOUNGSTOWN STATE
Miami holds a 1-0 lead in the all-time series with Youngstown State. In the teams' only meeting on March 28, 2002, the RedHawks earned an 8-7 victory in the third ever game at McKie Field at Hayden Park. The contest featured five lead changes and ended after eight innings due to darkness in the pre-lights era of the stadium.
