Miami will take on UCF and Penn over the weekend.
OXFORD, Ohio - The Miami University women's tennis team (2-7) will make a trip south this weekend, visiting Orlando for a two-match weekend starting with a match against the host University of Central Florida Friday. Miami will then stay at UCF to face the University of Pennsylvania on Saturday.
Both matches will be played at one of the most prestigious venues in the country: the United States Tennis Association National Campus. Friday's match with the Knights is scheduled for 5 p.m. The RedHawks and the Quakers will take to courts Saturday at noon.
LAST TIME OUT
The RedHawks suffered a setback at the hands of Big Ten foe Indiana last Saturday in Bloomington. The Hoosiers took down the 'Hawks by a 4-0 scoreline.
SCOUTING THE KNIGHTS
UCF currently holds the #27 ranking in the most recent ITA National Rankings, backed up by its impressive 10-2 record. Both of the Knights' losses were at the hands of other nationally ranked teams in #13 Northwestern and #17 Florida State. Four of their wins came against other national top-50 teams, as UCF boasts wins over #45 Florida, #46 Denver, #47 Tulsa, and #50 Baylor. The Knights' lineup is headed by sophomore Valeriya Zeleva (ranked #27 in the country) who holds a 10-2 record at number one singles. Ksenia Kuznetsova (ranked #70) is 7-2 at second singles, while their third court is occupied by Rebeka Stolmar at 7-1. The RedHawks and Knights have never met.
SCOUTING THE QUAKERS
Penn comes into the weekend sitting 6-2, with losses to Columbia and #24 Old Dominion. The Quakers and RedHawks share a common opponent in Harvard, whom Penn defeated 4-1. Freshman Iuliia Bryzgalova is the name to watch for the Quakers; the Moscow native is #111 in the nation and 20-2 across the entire season, including an unblemished 7-0 at number one singles in dual play. Marta Kowalska and Marija Curnic also occupy the top of Penn's singles lineup. As with the UCF-Miami matchup, the RedHawks and Quakers have never faced each other.
