Miami will send runners to NC State’s Raleigh Relays; Collier to Texas.
OXFORD, Ohio - After opening the 2019 outdoor season with a bang at the Miami Blizzard Buster in Oxford last weekend, the Miami University track and field team will hit the road for the second week of the season. A group of RedHawks will head to North Carolina State for the Raleigh Relays, while thrower Danielle Collier will go to the University of Texas's Texas Relays.Â
The travelling party heading to Raleigh will consist of sixteen Miami distance runners. RedHawk entrants will compete in the men's and women's 1500m, 5000m, and 3000m steeplechase as well as the women's 10000m, all of which will run on Friday. The meet's full schedule and list of entrants are linked above.
In addition to the group of distance runners at NC State, Miami's Collier will travel to Austin for the University of Texas's Texas Relays. Collier will throw in the javelin, with her flight scheduled to throw at 12:30 p.m. on Friday. The redshirt junior is fresh off a huge showing at the Blizzard Buster last Saturday, launching a throw of 53.31 meters that won her the event and puts the Hermitage, Penn. native fourth in the entire nation in the event. Collier is looking to get back to the NCAA Championships this season after competing in the event in 2017.
Last Saturday's Blizzard Buster saw success from the entire Miami squad, as the RedHawks won 22 of 26 track events and 25 events in total. From Miami's distance group, Christopher Torpy, Sean Torpy, and Rachel Kotchman are coming off event wins as they make the trip to Raleigh. Miami's sprinters, while not competing this weekend, also posted some huge numbers at the Blizzard Buster, including senior Aaron Muresan who was named Mid-American Conference Track Athlete of the Week for his four event wins on Saturday.
Alongside Collier' javelin performance in the field, Kenny Glenn broke his own school record over in the long jump with a distance of 7.69m.
Next weekend the 'Hawks will stay close to home as they make the short trip south to compete in the University of Cincinnati's Nikoloff Invitational.Â
