Miami Travels to Wright State for Mid-Week Doubleheader

The RedHawks and Raiders face off on Tuesday afternoon.

OXFORD, Ohio – The Miami University softball team (14-12, 1-2 MAC) makes the short drive to Dayton for a doubleheader against Wright State on Tuesday. First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m.

The RedHawks opened conference play at home against Central Michigan last weekend, going 1-2 despite outhitting the Chippewas in all three matchups. Both losses were in eight innings.

The RedHawks fell in extra innings to the Chippewas on Friday by a 1-4 margin. Courtney Vierstra pitched the complete game, striking out 10 batters, including her 100th strikeout of the season. Kara Leckinger led Miami's offense with three hits and an RBI, two of her hits being doubles. Ashton Slone also had a multi-hit game, with both of hers being doubles.

Miami dropped the first game of Saturday's doubleheader by a 3-4 margin in eight innings before bouncing back to take the final game of the weekend 7-3. In the win, Tran, Leckinger and Adriana Barlow each had two hits to lead the Miami offense. Morgan Lott and Barlow each had a home run. Leckinger and Lott each tallied two RBI.

Miami's pitching staff ranks third in the conference with a combined ERA of 3.55 and second in both strikeouts (182) and opponents' batting average (.244). Three of Miami's hitters are batting over .300 with Slone leading the way (.364).

Wright State (12-15, 0-3 Horizon) started conference play in the Horizon League last weekend, getting swept by Detroit Mercy. The Raiders took the lead in the first game of the weekend in the bottom of the first inning but were out-hit by Detroit Mercy and lost 3-4. Wright State fell by a 2-8 margin in the first game of Saturday's doubleheader before being run-ruled 2-10 in five innings in the second game of the day.
 
Rebekah Lenos leads Wright State in batting average (.348), runs (19), triples (2) and on-base percentage (.442) and is second in hits (23). Madison Whitaker leads the Raiders in home runs (3), RBI (20), total bases (36) and slugging percentage (.537) and is second in on-base percentage (.420).
 
All four pitchers on staff have between a 3.59 and 4.68 ERA. Maddux Hughes owns the best ERA (3.59) but is third in innings pitched (27.1), appearances (11) and wins (2). Olivia Otani has the most wins (5), appearances (17) and games started (14) and is second in complete games (2) and innings pitched (60.2). Makenna Durieux leads the staff in innings pitched (67.1) and complete games (3) and is second in appearances (16) and games started (11).
