OXFORD, Ohio – The Miami University softball team (13-10) shut out Butler (9-17) by a 4-0 margin on Wednesday.

Taylor Rathe started the game in the circle for the RedHawks. She pitched three innings, giving up no runs on only one hit. Rathe struck out two batters and walked one.
Brianna Pratt relieved Rathe in the circle to start the fourth inning. Pratt pitched two innings, giving up no runs on only one hit. She struck out one batter and walked none.
Courtney Vierstra relieved Pratt in the circle to start the six inning. Vierstra pitched the remaining two innings, giving up no runs or hits. She earned all six outs by strikeout and walked two batters.
Miami scored one run in the bottom of the first inning.
Haeley Tran hit a one-out double and advanced to third on a passed ball.
Johniann Wahl drove Tran home to make it a 1-0 ball game after one.
Lily Wilmot led off the second inning with a double and advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt from
Kara Leckinger. Wilmot scored on a sacrifice fly by
Jada Dotson to increase Miami's lead to 2-0.
Jenny Vasquez hit a one-out single and stole second to begin the fourth inning. Vasquez scored on a single from Wilmot before Butler made a pitching change. Leckinger doubled to score Wilmot and increase Miami's lead to 4-0 after four innings.
Tran and Wilmot led the Miami offense with two hits each while Wilmot also scored twice. Wahl, Wilmot, Leckinger and Dotson all had an RBI. Rathe, Pratt and Vierstra combined for the shutout.
UP AHEAD
The RedHawks open conference play with a home series against Central Michigan this weekend. On Friday, first pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m. On Saturday, the doubleheader will start at 1 p.m.
