CLEVELAND – The Miami University women's basketball team (23-8, 13-5 MAC) fell to Ohio (27-4, 14-4 MAC) by a 48-74 margin in the MAC Semifinals on Friday at Quicken Loans Arena.
Kendall McCoy was the RedHawks leading scorer with 10 points and was just one rebound shy of a double-double with nine boards.
The teams were tied at six after two minutes of play. Ohio put together a 7-0 run to take a 13-6 lead with 6:25 to play in the first quarter. The Bobcats led 22-14 after 10 minutes of play as they shot 50 percent from long range during the first 10 minutes of play.
After getting the first basket in the second quarter to close the gap to six points, Ohio went on a 12-1 run over the next five minutes of play to take a 34-17 lead with three minutes to play in the first half. Miami had the next three baskets to cut Ohio's lead to 23-34. The Bobcats got the last points of the half and led 36-23 going into the locker room.
Ohio shot 50 percent from the floor and from long range during the first half of play while Miami was held without a three-pointer during the first half. The RedHawks had eight offensive and 22 total rebounds in the first half compared to just 17 total rebounds by Ohio.
Miami's shooting struggles continued in the third quarter as the team shot for 20 percent from the floor during the third quarter. Two minutes into the second half,
Lauren Dickerson hit the first three-pointer of the game for Miami.

After Dickerson's three-pointer, Ohio scored the next 12 points to take a 53-26 lead with 3:44 to play in the third quarter. Miami trailed 32-59 after 30 minutes of play.
Miami outscored Ohio in the fourth quarter but the deficit was too much to overcome as scoring was capped at 48-74.
Vannessa Garrelts scored her first collegiate points late in the fourth quarter, sinking a three-pointer.

The RedHawks shot 31 percent from the floor and 15 percent from behind the arc for the game while the Bobcats shot 45 percent from both.
