OXFORD, Ohio – The Miami University softball team (10-9) lost its home opener against Austin Peay on Friday as the RedHawks' first game of the Miami Invitational. Miami lost by a 1-4 margin.

Courtney Vierstra pitched the complete game in the circle for the RedHawks. She struck out five batters and walked four while giving up eight hits.
Morgan Lott had Miami's first hit, a single, to lead off the bottom of the first inning. After stealing second, Lott would be stranded there as three-straight outs ended the inning.
Lizzie Bollinger hit a two-out single in the second but could not be brought home.
Vierstra hit a batter and walked one with one out in the fourth inning to put runners on first and second. Austin Peay got onto the scoreboard first with a single and a sacrifice fly, each batter earning one RBI to give Austin Peay a 2-0 lead after four.
Jenny Vasquez hit a solo home run in the bottom of six to get Miami on the board. That is her fourth home run of the season.
In the top of the seventh, Austin Peay added two runs to cap scoring at 4-1. Austin Peay strung together four singles in the inning.
Vasquez led the Miami offense with her solo shot, tallying Miami's lone RBI. Lott and Bollinger also hit singles.

The Miami Invitational continues with four games scheduled on Saturday. The day starts with two neutral site games before Miami plays Michigan State at approximately 4 p.m. and Austin Peay at approximately 6:30 p.m.
