OXFORD, Ohio - After staying in Southwest Ohio for three straight weeks, the Miami women's tennis team will head out on another road swing, starting with a visit to Bloomington on Saturday for an evening match against the Indiana Hoosiers. The match will get underway at 6 p.m. at the IU Tennis Center.
LAST TIME OUT
Miami got back to winning ways and improved to 2-6 last Saturday with a dominating 5-0 victory over Western Kentucky. The RedHawks picked up the doubles point and carried that momentum into singles play, where Miami didn't drop a single set.
Makenzie Myers got things started with a 6-0, 6-0 sweep at sixth singles.
Priyana Kalita and
Lena Babunski followed up with quick two-set wins of their own. To round out the day, freshman
Jordan Ortega-Mendez earned the first win of her Miami career with a 6-1, 6-4 victory on the third court. The other two singles matches were left unfnished.
SCOUTING THE HOOSIERS
Indiana is 7-5 so far this season having played a busy non-conference schedule. The Hoosiers and 'Hawks share four common opponents on the season as Indiana boasts wins over Cincinnati and James Madison while falling to Xavier and Kentucky. The other three losses on Indiana's schedule have come at the hands of Notre Dame, Tennessee, and Princeton. Indiana does have a 7-0 win over Western Michigan, whom the RedHawks will see later on in conference play. IU is led by a pair of seniors at the top of the lineup in Madison Appel and Natalie Whalen. Last year's meeting between the two squads resulted in a 6-1 Hoosier victory, with Miami's lone point coming from a
Nelli Ponomareva victory over Appel at first singles.Â
LOOKING AHEAD
The RedHawks will migrate south next weekend for a pair of matches in Orlando. Miami will start the weekend on Friday evening with a match against the host University of Central Florida and then return to UCF Saturday for a neutral-site meeting with the University of Pennsylvania.
