RedHawks will look for second win straight on Friday.
OXFORD, Ohio -Â After a week's rest, the Miami University women's tennis (1-3) will return to action for its home opener Friday as Colonial Athletic Association foe James Madison comes to town. The match is scheduled for an 11 a.m. first serve at Riverside Athletic Club in Hamilton.
LAST TIME OUT
Before last week's bye the Red and White made a trip to Boston for a two-match weekend, starting with a 6-1 setback to Harvard on Jan. 25 despite Brindtha Ramasamy's win at first singles. The 'Hawks would bounce back the next day to earn a 5-2 win over Boston University for the team's first victory of the season. The win over the Terriers was highlighted by dominant play from the 'Hawks during the day's singles session, with Miami taking five of the six matches. Alongside Ramasamy, Milana Lysova, Emily Struble, Melati Devi, and Priyana Kalita all earned victories to lead the RedHawks to victory.
RAMASAMY IN THE RANKINGS
In the release of Wednesday's Intercollegiate Tennis Association National Singles Rankings, Ramasamy earned herself a place in the national top-100, coming in at #96. She is just the third Miami player to become nationally ranked in the history of the program, following Natalia Soetrisno in 1997 and 1999 and Anastasia Dracheva in 2010. The freshman from Toronto, Ontario is 3-1 on the season at the top of the lineup and has already notched herself two Mid-American Conference Player of the Week awards.
MATCHUP WITH THE DUKES
JMU currently sits at 3-1 on the season, with victories over Howard, Marshall, and Charlotte and a loss to Virginia Tech. James Madison is coming off one of its best seasons in program history, compiling a 21-4 record and making a run to the CAA championship game. Two members of the singles lineup from that team return, and the Dukes have welcomed in first-year head coach Shelley Jaudon. In addition to returners Jona Roka and Emma Petersen, the Dukes feature freshman Daria Afanasyeva and senior Abby Amos at the top of the lineup. This will be the first-ever dual match meeting between Miami and JMU, although the two teams did see each other in fall play at the Hokie Fall Invite last season.
LOOKING FORWARD
Miami will be back in Hamilton next weekend, hosting Cincinnati for a rivalry match-up on Sat. Feb. 16 at 4 p.m.
