Ramasamy earns her fourth straight win.
HAMILTON, Ohio - Despite freshman Brindtha Ramasamy's fourth straight victory at number one singles, the Miami University women's tennis team dropped its home opener to James Madison by a score of 6-1 at Riverside Athletic Club in Hamilton.
While JMU improves to 4-1, the RedHawks slip to 1-4 amidst a very difficult non-conference slate.
All three doubles matches would go down to the wire, but the Dukes would claim the match's opening point. In a back-and-forth match on court one, the team of Priyana Kalita and Milana Lysova ultimately fell 7-5 to JMU's Voloh/Amos. On court three, Makenzie Myers and Ramasamy fought back from a 5-3 deficit to force a tiebreak and took down Dukes' team of Petersen/Nord. Second doubles also went to a tiebreak, but went the opposite way as JMU's Afanasyeva/Roka clipped Melati Devi and Emily Struble.
The RedHawks would quickly pull one back at the start of singles as the nation's #96 ranked singles player Ramasamy won a quick 6-1, 6-0 decision on the first court. This moves her to 4-1 on the season. James Madison quickly answered back and regained the lead, winning at number six singles in straight sets. The Dukes then moved a point away from clinching when Kalita wasn't able to capitalize on her strong first set, falling in three to JMU's Emma Petersen.
That clinching point came quickly after, as James Madison's Voloh picked up a win at third singles to give the Dukes the requisite four points for the match win. JMU would then add two more wins on the second and fourth lines to close out the day with the final 6-1 scoreline.Â
