Box Score Lauren Dickerson scored a game-high 25 points to lead the Miami University women's basketball team to a 75-62 win over Bowling Green on Saturday afternoon. The win, Miami's 11th in a row, is the fifth-longest win streak in school history.
Miami entered the fourth quarter holding a slight 55-52 advantage before outscoring the Falcons 20-10 in the final 10 minutes of action to pick up its 21st win of the season. With the win, the RedHawks move to 21-4 overall and remain atop the Mid-American Conference with a 12-2 conference record. BGSU falls to 8-17 overall and 1-13 in MAC play.
Saturday was Miami's annual Love. Honor. Care contest which is an effort to raise funds to fight against all cancers, honor the survivors of the disease and educate the community. In all, 2,876 fans attended the game, a season best.
Dickerson, who scored at least 20 points for the ninth time this season, was not the only RedHawk to score in double figures. She was joined by
Kendall McCoy (13),
Leah Purvis (11) and
Savannah Kluesner (11). Kluesner led all players with 14 rebounds.
Dickerson paced the RedHawks early, scoring seven of Miami's first 11 points to spot the Red and White an 11-6 advantage. Miami concluded the first quarter with a 22-13 lead as six different Hawks got on the scoreboard.
The offensive barrage continued into the second quarter. Dickerson added another quick five points with a three pointer and a mid-range jumper. Kluesner also added an easy layup on a beautiful dish from McCoy. Miami led 31-20 with 4:56 remaining in the first half.
Bowling Green answered with a small run of their own to close Miami's lead to 39-32, but the RedHawks finished the second quarter on a 6-2 run to take a 45-34 advantage into the locker room.
Bowling Green opened the third stanza with a 14-4 run to close the gap to just a single point, 49-48, with 5:06 to play in the third. A McCoy triple put Miami up 55-50. BG added a late bucket to make it a one possession game, 55-52, to begin the final 10 minutes of action.
The RedHawks went on a 6-2 run in the first three-and-a-half minutes of the fourth quarter despite the Falcons momentarily cutting the deficit to two points a minute into the quarter. With six minutes remaining, it was a 61-56 ball game. Kluesner scored four-straight points for the 'Hawks to increase the lead to 65-56 with 3:46 to play. Miami made seven free throws in the last 2:08 to seal the victory.
Miami returns to action on Wednesday, Feb. 27 with a trip to Kent State. Opening tip is scheduled for 7 p.m.
