Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 LAS VEGAS – The Miami University softball team (5-4) split the second day of the UNLV Tournament on Saturday. In the first game, the RedHawks beat UC Davis by a 7-6 margin in eight innings. Miami then concluded the day with a 2-7 loss to Seattle.

Miami 7, UC Davis 6 (8 inn.)

Taylor Rathe started the game in the circle for the RedHawks and pitched two innings. Rathe pitched two innings and struck out two batters. Bri Pratt started the third inning in the circle in relief of Rathe.
UC Davis scored first, a three-run home run in the bottom of the first inning to take a 3-0 lead.

The score remained 3-0 until the top of the third inning. Mackenzie Moore hit a lead-off homer to put Miami on the scoreboard. Johniann Wahl hit a two-run home run to tie the game at three runs after Morgan Lott was walked. Jenny Vasquez hit Miami's third home run of the inning to drive in Ashton Slone and take a 5-3 lead for Miami. UC Davis changed pitchers after the home run by Vasquez.

With two on and two out in the bottom of the fifth inning, Lizzie Bollinger tagged a runner out at the plate to end the inning and preserve the RedHawks' 5-3 lead.

UC Davis tied the game at five runs in the bottom of the sixth before Vierstra replaced Pratt in the circle. UC Davis took a 6-5 lead to end the inning despite Vierstra earning her first strikeout of the game.

Kara Leckinger pinch hit for Moore to lead-off the seventh inning and hit a single. Moore replaced Leckinger as the runner. Haeley Tran reached first on a bunt that advanced Moore to second. UC Davis brought in a new pitcher. Lott laid down the sacrifice bunt to advance the runners to second and third. Wahl tied the game at six with a sacrifice fly. Vierstra held UC Davis off the scoreboard in the bottom of the seventh to force extra innings.

Riley Coyne was the runner put on second base to start the eighth inning. Vasquez hit a single to score Coyne and give Miami a 7-6 lead. An error by UC Davis landed Adriana Barlow on first and advanced Vasquez but the RedHawks couldn't score an insurance run and headed into the bottom of the eighth with a one-run lead.

The Miami defense prevented UC Davis from scoring and ensured the RedHawks' first extra-inning win of the season.

Miami 2, Seattle 7

Rathe started the game in the circle and pitched 3.2 innings, striking out two batters. Pratt came in as relief with two outs in the top of the fourth inning and finished the game, also getting two strikeouts.

Seattle struck first, scoring one run on a walk in the top of the first inning.

The score remained 1-0 until the top of the fourth inning when Seattle extended its lead to 7-0. It started with a two-run home run before Pratt replaced Rathe in the circle with two outs. Seattle scored one more before a three-run homer brought its run total to seven.

Miami responded in the bottom of the fourth inning to get onto the scoreboard. Adriana Barlow hit a two-run home run to cut Seattle's lead to 7-2. These would be the last runs scored.
