RedHawks Take On Pair of Local Foes This Weekend

Miami will tangle with Cincinnati Saturday before visiting Xavier on Sunday.

OXFORD, Ohio - The Miami University women's tennis team will return to the courts Saturday night with a local foe waiting on the other side of the net in the Cincinnati Bearcats. The RedHawks and the Bearcats will play at The Club at Harper's Point in Cincinnati, with first serve slated for 6:30 p.m. Miami will stay in Cincinnati for another match Sunday, taking on the Xavier Musketeers at 5 p.m.

NEW TIME AND VENUE
In addition to Saturday's match time being moved from 4 p.m. to 6:30, the location for the match was also moved. Instead of the RedHawks' usual home grounds, Saturday's match is being played at The Club at Harper's Point in Cincinnati (8675 E. Kemper Rd.). The 'Hawks are still the designated home team.

LAST TIME OUT
The Red and White played their first home match last weekend, hosting the James Madison Dukes in Hamilton. Unfortunately for the 'Hawks, an extremely close win in the doubles point for the Dukes gave JMU the momentum they needed as it pulled ahead in the day's singles matches to defeat the RedHawks by a 6-1 scoreline. Freshman Brindtha Ramasamy continued to be a bright spot for Miami as she rolled to an easy 6-1, 6-0 victory at first singles and also combined with sophomore Makenzie Myers to earn a doubles win.

RAMASAMY IN THE RANKINGS
The aforementioned win by Ramsamy moved the Toronto native to 5-1 at first singles in her debut season, and the accolades have followed. Ramasamy is currently ranked among the top 100 players in the nation, sitting at #96 in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association's most recent singles rankings. She is just the third RedHawk to obtain a national ranking in program history.

MATCHUP WITH THE BEARCATS
UC currently sits 4-2 on the season, taking victories against Butler and IUPUI as well as two Mid-American Conference teams in Toledo and Western Michigan. The Bearcats and RedHawks share one common opponent as both teams have fallen to Louisville; Cincinnati's other loss came at the hands of the Indiana Hoosiers in a tight 4-3 match. The Bearcats have been led thus far by freshman Maria Santilli, who holds an unblemished 6-0 record in the spring season. Sophomore Emma Miceli is right behind her at 5-1, while Antonella Bramato and Caroline Morton are each 4-2. The 'Hawks and Bearcats have met 33 times, with Miami holding a commanding 25-8 series lead. Last year's meeting went to Cincinnati, 6-1.

MATCHUP WITH THE MUSKETEERS
Like Cincinnati, Xavier has gotten off to a 4-2 start to the 2019 season. XU's victories have come over North Texas, Indiana, Villanova and Georgetown. Both of the Musketeers' losses have come from Big Ten opponents, as they dropped their season opener to Iowa and fell to Michigan State. Sophia Abelson and Ahmeir Kyle anchor the top of the Xavier lineup, while sophomore Kaitlin Reuther has compiled a 4-1 record to start the year. Last year's meeting in Hamilton saw the Musketeers eek out a 4-3 victory, although the RedHawks still lead the all-time series 9-7. Sunday's match will be played at 5 p.m. at Eastern Hill Indoor Tennis Center in Cincinnati.
