RedHawks Fall at No. 19 Miami Saturday

Miami lost by an 80-62 margin.

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The Miami University women's basketball team (4-4) wrapped up play in the Miami (FL) Thanksgiving Tournament with an 80-62 loss at No. 19 Miami (FL) on Saturday. Savannah Kluesner was named to the All-Tournament Team following the game.

Peyton Scott and Bree Paulson each had a career game, scoring 18 and 12 points, respectively. Kluesner and Kelly McLaughlin also scored in double figures with 10 points apiece.

After trading baskets for the first few minutes of the game, Miami (FL) was able to open up an 11-point lead after the first quarter of play by shooting 68 percent from the field during the first 10 minutes of play.

Kelly McLaughlin, Peyton Scott and Vannessa Garrelts each had a bucket in the first three minutes as the RedHawks had leads at 4-2 and 6-4 before the Hurricanes took a lead they would not relinquish. After the basket from Garrelts, Miami (FL) put together a 15-4 run over the next three minutes, eventually holding the 27-16 lead after one quarter of play.

Miami (OH) opened the second quarter with a 7-4 run, including its lone three-pointer of the first half, a trio of points coming from the hands of Bree Paulson.
 
 
After a layup from Savannah Kluesner to cut Miami (FL)'s lead to 33-25 with 5:25 remaining in the first half, the Hurricanes scored 10 unanswered points to stretch their lead to 18 – their largest lead of the half. Miami (FL) held a 43-27 lead at halftime.

Paulson opened the third quarter with her second three-pointer and Miami (OH)'s second three-pointer of the game.
 
 
Every basket Miami (OH) scored, Miami (FL) would respond on the next possession. The Hurricanes led by a 50-36 margin with 7:24 to play in the third quarter before Miami (FL)'s defense forced a scoring drought for the RedHawks lasting 6:44.

The Hurricanes led 60-38 after three quarters of play.

Scott opened scoring in the fourth quarter before Miami (OH) was forced into another scoring drought, this one lasting 4:35, before Paulson sunk back-to-back three-pointers midway through the fourth quarter.
 
 
The RedHawks went on a 14-8 run during the final four minutes of the game.

Miami travels to Cincinnati on Sunday, Dec. 8 for a 2 p.m. tip.
