OXFORD, Ohio – The Miami University volleyball team used a workman like effort to earn its eighth straight victory by knocking off Kent State, 3-0 (25-17, 25-17, 25-18) on Saturday. The RedHawks improve to 15-8 overall and 10-2 in the Mid-American Conference. The Golden Flashes are 12-12 overall and 5-7 in the MAC.
After putting down a season-high 14 blocks on Friday in the win over Ohio, Miami followed it up with 11 more blocks on Saturday. The Red and White forced Kent State into 26 total attack errors in the match and held the Flashes to a .046 attack percentage.
Junior right side hitter
Sarah Wojick led the Miami offensive attack on Saturday. She put down a team-leading 10 kills. She did not make a single attack error in 20 attempts, finishing with a .500 hitting percentage.
Sophomore outside hitter
Gaby Harper had a pair of kills as the teams traded points to begin set one. Trailing 4-6, Kent State scored three in a row to take a 7-6 lead. It would be the last time the Golden Flashes held a lead at any point in the match. A kill from senior outside hitter
Taylor Daignault tied the score, while a service ace from Harper put the RedHawks on top. Kills by Daignault and Wojick off assists from sophomore setter
Louise Comerford helped extend the advantage to 13-8. Kills by senior middle hitter
Margaret Payne and Harper off assists from junior setter
Morgan Seaman got the lead to 18-11. Kent State got as close as four points at 15-19, but a 6-2 run capped by back-to-back kills from Wojick finished off a 25-17 win.

Avarie Powell and senior middle hitter
Haley Stewart helped the RedHawks jump to an 11-4 lead to begin set two. Wojick put down two more, while one from Payne made it an eight-point advantage at 17-9. A service ace from Comerford and a kill from Powell gave Miami its largest lead at 23-13. From there, a kill by freshman outside hitter
Allyson Severance completed the 25-17 victory.
Wojick and Payne each had two kills as part of another big start for Miami in set three. Trailing 3-9, Kent State scored four in a row to climb back in the set. Harper and Stewart each put down kills, but the Golden Flashes refused to go away. Kent State went on a 3-0 run to pull within two at 16-18. The RedHawks then took control as kills from Stewart and Daignault, along with a block from Wojick and Stewart completed a 7-2 run that gave Miami a 25-18 victory and a sweep in the match.
Harper finished with seven kills, 13 digs and four blocks for the RedHawks. Payne and Daignault had six kills each. Payne led Miami with five blocks, while Comerford had 17 assist. Junior libero Abigial Huser finished with a team-high 16 digs.
The RedHawks hit the road for a pair of matches next week. It begins on Friday when they travel to Akron for a 7 p.m. contest.
