Miami falls to 2-2 in MAC play.
AKRON, Ohio – Following Friday's invigorating road win, Miami Soccer was unable to finish the weekend with six points from its trip as it fell to Akron 2-0.
The RedHawks fall to 3-8 on the season and 2-2 in Mid-American Conference play.
Akron outshot Miami by an 8-3 count in the opening frame. The contest remained scoreless into the latter stages of the frame, however, until the Zips got a goal off a corner kick in the 33rd minute when Sydney Worthy headed in Anya Donelan's service to put them up 1-0, a score that held into the break.
Another UA corner kick eventually made it a 2-0 contest in the 56th minute. The ball was tied up in some feet in the box before Akron's Abigail Brown dug the ball out and worked it outside to Kayleigh Penton, who fired a shot from 22 yards out into the upper 90 to put the Zips up a couple.
The RedHawks got a few shots after the Zips' breathing room tally, but were unable to solve Libby Harper as she finished with three saves to post the shutout.
Akron outshot Miami 18-6 and had a slight (5-4) advantage in corner kicks. Izzie Vaccari made seven saves in goal for the Red & White.
Miami has a short turnaround to prepare for Western Michigan coming to town on Thursday. Opening kick at Bobby Kramig Field is at 4 p.m.
