OXFORD, Ohio – The 2019 World Series has some Miami flair to it as former RedHawk Adam Eaton is the starting right fielder for the National League Champion Washington Nationals. They take on the American League Champion Houston Astros beginning Tuesday.
Eaton will become the first Miami baseball alum to play in the World Series since Charlie Leibrandt, who played for the 1985 Champion Kansas City Royals and the 1991 and 1992 Runner-Up Atlanta Braves.
In three seasons with Miami (2008-10), Eaton made a big impact. He earned All-Mideast Region in 2009 and 2010 and was All-Mid-American Conference in each of those seasons as well. Despite playing only three seasons for Miami, he ranks fourth all-time in school history with 169 runs scored, is tops on the leaderboard with 18 triples, is ninth in total bases with 364 and tied for sixth in stolen bases with 66.
During his time with the RedHawks, Eaton hit .340 with 24 home runs and 129 RBIs.
Eaton was a 19th-round draft pick of the Arizona Diamondbacks in 2010. He spent two seasons in the majors with the Diamondbacks beginning in 2012 before he was traded to Chicago in 2014. It was with the White Sox that he began to blossom as a star, hitting .300 in his first season with the team. Eaton has spent the past three seasons with Washington after being traded.
In 2019, Eaton has appeared in 151 games as the starting right fielder. He is hitting .279 with 15 home runs and 49 RBIs.
