Miami Opens Conference Play At Northern Illinois

The RedHawks face the Huskies on Saturday.

ON TAP: Miami (9-2) travels to DeKalb, Ill. to face Northern Illinois (8-4) for its first conference game of the season on Saturday, Jan. 5. Tip-off is scheduled for 2 p.m. ET. The game will be broadcast on ESPN3 and Miami College Sports Live.

LAST TIME OUT: The RedHawks only allowed 29 points against Ohio Dominican in a 74-29 win on Saturday, Dec. 29, tying the all-time low in program history in points allowed. Miami continued to show scoring depth as nine different players put points on the board with three players setting career highs in various categories. The RedHawks tied a season-best by only allowing two points in the third quarter while putting together a 22-0 run over 11 minutes of play.

ABOUT NORTHERN ILLINOIS: The Huskies (8-4) beat Brown in double overtime by a 109-102 margin on New Year's Eve to conclude non-conference play. NIU is currently on a four-game win streak dating back to Saturday, Dec. 8. Mikayla Voigt leads the Huskies' offense, averaging 22.3 points per game while Courtney Woods was averaging 20.1 points per game, but has not played since Sunday, Dec. 2 in a 98-69 win over Nevada. Ally May leads the team with 7.3 rebounds per game and Myia Starks averages 3.0 assists per game.

SERIES WITH THE HUSKIES: The all-time series is tied with each team owning 19 victories. Last season, Miami won both games against NIU. The RedHawks opened MAC play with a 67-65 win against the Huskies, led by 18 points from Lauren Dickerson. Baleigh Reid and Kendall McCoy also scored in double figures. At the end of January, Miami beat Northern Illinois by a 77-62 margin as five RedHawk players reached double figures. Four of those players - Savannah Kluesner, Lauren Dickerson, Kendall McCoy and Leah Purvis - return to the roster this season.
