Miami picks up its first win of the season.
BOSTON, Mass. - The Miami University women's tennis team (1-3) picked up its first win of the season Saturday against Boston University (0-1), bouncing back from a dropped doubles point to dominate the singles session and take the match 5-2.
The 'Hawks found themselves in an early hole as the Terriers were able to sweep through the doubles session. Miami and coach Ricardo Rosas set out a different doubles look for the match, sliding the pairing of Milana Lysova and Priyana Kalita up to the first court and rounding out the lineup with pairings of Emily Struble and Brindtha Ramasamy at second doubles and Melati Devi and Makenzie Myers at third. Unfortunately for the 'Hawks, these new duos wouldn't be able to overcome the Terriers, falling in all three matches to give BU the 1-0 lead.
The day's singles matches, however, would be a different story. Coming off her win yesterday over Harvard's number one Erica Oosterhaut, Ramasamy continued to lead the RedHawks and breezed past BU's Remi Ramos at number one singles. With the win, Ramasamy now moves to 3-1 in her young collegiate career. But unlike Friday's Harvard match, Ramasamy received plenty of support from the rest of the RedHawk lineup. Lysova would grit out a tough three-set win at second singles, as did Struble on the third court. Courts four and five saw comeback victories from the 'Hawks, as Kalita and Devi each battled back from dropped first sets to take their matches and help the Red and White clinch the 5-2 victory. The Terriers did pick up one last win on the sixth court in yet another three-setter, as Miami sophomore Lena Babunski was ultimately clipped in a close third set.
The RedHawks will be idle next week before returning Friday, Feb. 8 for their home opener against James Madison. That match is slated for an 11 a.m. first serve at Riverside Athletic Club in Hamilton.
