Ramasamy earns her second straight win at #1 singles.
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - Despite reigning Mid-American Conference Player of the Week Brindtha Ramasamy earning another big win at first singles, the Miami University women's tennis team couldn't overcome Harvard Friday, dropping the match 6-1. The RedHawks slip to 0-3 in 2019, while the Crimson now sit at 2-0.
Starting off with the doubles section, the 'Hawks were able to earn a win as the tandem of Emily Struble and Melati Devi defeated Anna Li/Rachel Eason 6-4. However, the Crimson were still able to snag the opening point as they picked up victories on the first and second court.
As with last Sunday at Louisville, the highlight of the singles session for the RedHawks was freshman Brindtha Ramasamy at the top of the lineup. Ramasamy came in to the match fresh off a MAC Player of the Week nod after defeating UL's nationally-ranked Aleksandra Mally last weekend. The Toronto native would continue right where she left off, knocking off Harvard's two-time Ivy League first teamer Erica Oosterhout at number one singles. After losing the opening frame, Ramasamy would bounce back to take down the Crimson senior by a score of 4-6, 6-2, 1-0. Ramasamy, whose first-ever collegiate match came just last week, now sits at 2-1 on the season with all matches coming on the first court.
Unfortunately, this would be the only win the Red and White would be able to take on the day. Struble and sophomore Milana Lysova each battled through three hard-fought sets, but they were both ultimately clipped in the third-set tiebreak.
Full scoring from the match is listed below.
Miami will return to the courts at Harvard tomorrow when they take on Boston University in a neutral-site contest. First serve is scheduled for 11 a.m.
