Bechtel and Kountouri each earn podium places.
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Fresh off an appearance at last week's Gladstein Invitationals at Indiana University, the Miami University track and field team completed day one at the IU Relays Friday.
It was the sprinters who put together some of the best runs of the day, starting with senior Kalliopi Kountouri who grabbed a second place finish in the 600m, running a 1:33.22. Keeping up her string of top-three finishes, junior Olivia Bechtel ran a personal-record 24.34 in the 200m to finish third, besting the PR she set just last week. Over in the 60m hurdles, Mallory Harr earned herself a place in the finals by running a personal record 9.15 to finish top-eight in prelims. In the men's hurdles, Aaron Muresan followed up his great performance at the Gladstein last week by posting a 8.11 time, good for the best mark across all prelim heats and a personal best as well.
Four heptathlon events also ran Friday, with Ben Artrip putting up some great numbers for the RedHawks. After an eighth-place in the 60m and a seventh in the long jump, Artrip won the shot put with a 13.79m throw and took second in the high jump, clearing 1.92m. Elsewhere, Mikaylah Woods took another top ten in the long jump with a distance of 5.53m and Hannah Falcione set a triple jump PR with a mark of 11.82.
Full results for the day are linked above.
Day two at IU will get underway Saturday morning, starting at 9:00 a.m.
