OXFORD, Ohio – Three Colorado College goals 5:04 apart dug the Miami hockey team into a hole it couldn't climb out of in a 6-1 loss on Friday night.

The RedHawks drop to 9-12-4 (3-8-2-1 National Collegiate Hockey) with the setback.

Play went back and forth over the opening shifts, with MU getting the first good chance when a Gordie Green wrist shot partially handcuffed Alex Leclerc in the early going. The Tigers (9-12-3, 3-7-2-0 NCHC) were the ones to get on the board first when a turnover allowed Erik Middendorf to drive the net for a sharp angle shot off Ryan Larkin's pad that Brian Williams tapped in with 10:02 gone by.

That goal seemingly opened the floodgates as CC tacked on two more goals in the frame as Alex Berardinelli scored on a breakaway and Troy Conzo blocked a clear and put the puck in with Larkin down to stake Colorado College to a 3-0 lead after 20 minutes.

Another turnover put the Tigers up 4-0 just 41 seconds into the second period as Trey Bradley scored on a wraparound to chase Larkin from goal. CC made it a 5-0 contest with 10:23 left in the middle frame as Williams netted his second of the evening. Grant Hutton finally got the RedHawks on the board with 8:52 left in the second with a point shot that he fired through traffic, tying him with Joe Cook and Andy Greene for third all-time in Miami history in defense scoring with 27 career goals. Casey Gilling and Brian Hawkinson assisted on the goal, but MU trailed 5-1 after 40 minutes.

CC capped the scoring on a Christiano Versich goal with 2:04 remaining in the contest.

The RedHawks outshot the Tigers 30-28 overall and both teams went 0-for-1 on the power play. Jordan Uhelski stopped 14 of 16 shots in relief of Larkin (eight saves) while Leclerc made 29 saves.

These teams finish their weekend series on Saturday with the One Miami Weekend tripleheader finale starting at 7:05 p.m.
