McCoy Reaches 1,000 Career Points in Buffalo Loss

The RedHawks fell to the Bulls 59-66 on Saturday.
OXFORD, Ohio – The Miami University women's basketball team (10-4, 1-2 MAC) lost to Buffalo (10-4, 2-1 MAC) by a 59-66 margin on Saturday.
Kendall McCoy reached 1,000 career points with her first 20-point game of the season. Savannah Kluesner put together her third-straight double-double with 12 points and 14 rebounds. Lauren Dickerson had a career-high 10 assists. Leah Purvis reach double figures with 12 points.

After Buffalo got the first two points of the game, Miami went on a 12-0 run over the next five minutes to take a 12-2 lead with 3:33 to play in the first quarter. The RedHawks' 12-0 run included two from behind the arc from Purvis.

The teams each had two more baskets and the RedHawks had a 16-6 lead after the first 10 minutes of play.
The Bulls scored the first four points of the second quarter to close the gap to 16-10 in favor of the RedHawks. With 6:38 left in the first half, Kluesner pulled down her 10th rebound of the afternoon. Miami put together an 8-0 run to increase its lead to 24-10 with 4:24 to play in the half. Part of the 8-0 run was Purvis' third basket from long range.

With under two minutes remaining in the second quarter, McCoy was the first player on the court to reach double figures. Miami closed the half with a 30-22 lead.
McCoy owned the first three points of the second half to increase the RedHawks' lead to double figures once again. Over the next three minutes, Buffalo went on a 14-3 scoring run to tie the game at 36 with under six minutes to play in the third quarter.
After two-straight baskets from the RedHawks, the Bulls scored six-straight points to take a 42-40 lead. Purvis struck again from long range to reach double figures with her fourth three-pointer of the afternoon. The teams traded baskets and Buffalo took a 48-45 lead into the fourth quarter.
The Bulls extended their lead to five points before the RedHawks got back within one. Dickerson tied the game at 54 midway through the fourth quarter with her first three-pointer of the game.

Dickerson tied the game again at 56 points after Buffalo hit a pair of free throws. With 3:08 remaining, McCoy reached 1,000 career points by making two free throws. Miami got within one before Buffalo closed out the game a 6-0 run to cap scoring at 66-59.
The RedHawks travel to Central Michigan on Wednesday. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m.
