RedHawks Make California Trip

OXFORD, Ohio – The Miami University field hockey team travels to California this week to play Pacific, UC Davis and California. On Thursday, the RedHawks begin the trip against Pacific at 6 p.m. ET. Miami takes on UC Davis on Saturday at 3 p.m. ET before concluding the weekend with a 5 p.m. ET game at California on Sunday.

The RedHawks began the season 1-1 last weekend, shutting out Saint Francis 5-0 and falling to No. 9 Delaware 4-1.

Head coach Iñako Puzo, senior midfielder Estel Roig and red-shirt senior back/midfielder Mariona Heras spoke with MiamiRedHawks.com about the upcoming trip to California and Miami's expectations of its play.

ABOUT PACIFIC: The Tigers hold a 2-1 record to start the 2018 season after finishing the 2017 season with a 10-9 overall record. This season, Pacific has earned victories against Temple (3-0) and Providence (2-1) after dropping its first contest against No. 4 Maryland (3-0). Senior forwards Rylee Comeau and Kriekie Van Wyk have each scored twice and totaled five points in the Tigers' opening week.

SERIES WITH PACIFIC: The RedHawks own a 5-2 series lead against the Tigers. The two teams most recently met in 2015 when Miami won by a 2-0 margin.

ABOUT UC DAVIS: The Aggies started the 2018 season with a 2-1 record after finishing the 2017 season 1-17. This season, UC Davis beat Temple (3-2) and Providence (3-2) before falling to No. 4 Maryland (6-1). Freshman midfielder Eline van den Bosch currently leads the Aggies' scoring efforts with two goals and five total points.

SERIES WITH UC DAVIS: Miami has won each of the teams' five previous meetings. In 2015, the RedHawks won 2-0.

ABOUT CALIFORNIA: The Golden Bears went 1-1 in the first weekend after finishing the 2017 season with a 9-8 record. Last weekend, California beat Providence (5-1) before losing to No. 4 Maryland (5-0). Sophomore forward/midfielder Megan Rodgers currently leads the Golden Bears' scoring with three goals and seven total points.

SERIES WITH CALIFORNIA: The RedHawks trail the all-time series with the Golden Bears three games to four. Miami and California met most recently in 2010, with the RedHawks earning a 4-3 victory.

UP AHEAD: Miami is on the road again next weekend, playing at No. 12 Northwestern on Friday at 1 p.m. ET. On Saturday, the RedHawks take on No. 19 Boston University in a neutral site game on Northwestern's campus at 12 p.m. ET.
