April 9, 2018 OXFORD, Ohio - After their strong performances over the past week, freshman outfielder Parker Massman and senior Nelli Ponomareva were named Miami Athletes of the Week for the week of April 2-8.
Massman was a key piece in the RedHawks taking two out of three against Bowling Green this past weekend. The outfielder went 6-for-9 against the Falcons for a .667 batting average. He scored one run, hit one double and drove in a team-high six runs batted in. Massman also drew three walks, was hit by two pitches and didn't record a strikeout. The Carmel, Ind. native is now hitting .328 on the year, including a team-best .455 clip in conference play.
This is Massman's first time being named Miami Male Athlete of the Week.
Ponomareva went 2-0 this week, helping the RedHawks to a 5-2 win over Eastern Michigan and helped move Miami to 4-1 in Mid-American Conference play. The senior captured a win at No. 1 doubles (6-1) with teammate Anastasiia Vasiukhina and then won 6-3, 6-2 at No. 1 singles as well.
This marks the third time this season and fourth time in her career than Ponomareva has been named Miami's Female Athlete of the Week.
The next Miami Athletes of the Week will be announced on April 16.
