Miami Cruises Past Ohio, Evens Series

OXFORD, Ohio - The Miami baseball team rebounded to even its series against Ohio with a 6-1 victory on Saturday at McKie Field at Hayden Park. The win improves the Red & White's record to 24-15 on the season, including a 10-7 mark in Mid-American Conference play.
The Bobcats got the game's first lead for the second straight day, scoring on a delayed steal with runners on the corners in the top of the second.
Miami pulled even and eventually took the lead for good in the bottom half of the third. Jordan Stephens, Adrian Texidor and Ross Haffey each singled to load the bases, which set up a Hayden Senger sacrifice fly. Landon Stephens then followed with an RBI double down the right field line to put the Red & White ahead, 2-1, after three.
The `Hawks widened their advantage with a single tally in the fourth. Cal Elvers and Kyle Winkler singled and doubled, respectively, to start the frame and Elvers later tagged and scored on an Adrian Texidor sacrifice fly to make it 3-1.
Miami got some insurance runs in both the sixth and seventh innings. In the sixth, with Winkler on second and Jordan Stephens on first, Texidor doubled to left, driving in both runners to make it 5-1. The RedHawks would score once more in the seventh when Landon Stephens singled in Senger, who had reached on a double.
Texidor finished the day 3-for-3 with three runs batted in while Landon Stephens went 2-for-4 with two driven in. Jordan Stephens also finished with a pair of hits and scored twice. Eight Miami batters posted at least one hit.
The Red & White got a strong start on the bump from Zach Spears, who went seven innings while surrendering just one run on five hits. He also struck out eight. Andy Almquist and Jack Corbell each tossed an inning in relief, combing to allow just one run while striking out four.
The rubber match is slated for 1 p.m. on Sunday.
