INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - The RedHawk baseball team fell to Butler, 4-3, in 11 innings on Wednesday evening in Indianapolis. The Bulldogs twice erased two-run deficits to eventually win on a walk-off single.
Miami got a quick start to the game. Ross Haffey got things going with a double to deep center and subsequently scored on a Hayden Senger triple to the gap in center. Landon Stephens then got the Red & White a 2-0 lead when his sacrifice fly allowed Senger to tag and come home.
Many zeros followed as no one would score again until the sixth, but this time it was Butler. The Bulldogs got on the board thanks to a sacrifice fly of their own to cut the MU lead to 2-1.
The RedHawks regained their two-run edge in the top of the eighth when Landon Stephens went yard for the sixth time this season, a solo to left to make it 3-1. The tally proved important as Butler would collect two runs in the bottom half of the inning, striking on a two-run double down the left field line to pull even at 3-all.
The lone run in extra innings went the way of the Bulldogs as they won on a walk-off base hit.
Miami starting pitcher Jay Wilson put forth a strong effort on the mound. The redshirt freshman went five innings and allowed just one run on four hits while striking out six.
The RedHawks get back to work this weekend when they host rival Ohio for a three-game series that is set to begin Friday at 5 p.m.
