MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. - The Miami University softball team fell to Central Michigan in the final game of the series by a 3-2 margin in the ninth inning. The RedHawks are 13-15 overall and 2-4 in conference play.
Central Michigan 3, Miami 2 (9 inn.)
Courtney Vierstra pitched a complete game in the circle for the RedHawks. Vierstra struck out four batters and intentionally walked one.
Central Michigan took an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning on a solo home run.
Ashton Slone singled in the second inning but was out on a fielder's choice play to end the inning.
In the fourth inning, Haeley Tran hit a lead-off single. Johniann Wahl hit a two-run shot to give Miami a 2-1 lead. This is Wahl's sixth home run of the season and 24th of her career.
Central Michigan tied the game at two in the bottom of the fourth inning on a double and two singles.
Mackenzie Moore was stranded on third in the fifth inning after hitting a triple.
Central Michigan loaded the bases with one out in the sixth inning but was unable to score.
Moore was stranded on base again in the top of the eighth inning.
Central Michigan won the game in the bottom of the ninth with a walk-off home run.
Wahl led the RedHawks at the plate with the home run and two RBI's. Tran and Moore each had two hits.
