OXFORD, Ohio - The RedHawk baseball team polished off their sweep over Rider with a 6-0 victory Sunday afternoon. The win is Miami's sixth in a row, placing its record at 8-3 on the year.
The Red & White again got a strong start on the mound, this time from Bailey Martin. The junior went six innings and allowed no runs and just two hits while earning three strikeouts. Cole Gnetz, Jacob Banks and Jack Corbell each tossed an inning in relief.
Miami did most of its damage in the bottom half of the fourth, striking for five runs in the frame. Landon Stephens led the inning off with a walk then stole second, which was followed by a Will Vogelgesang bunt single to put runners on the corners. A Hayden Senger walk chucked the bases before Cal Elvers reached on an error, bringing Stephens home for the game's first run. After a fielder's choice that got the lead runner out at home, a Carlos Texidor sacrifice fly allowed Senger to tag up and score from third. Kyle Winkler followed with a single through the left side that scored Elvers before Dallas Hall capped the inning by ripping a triple to the gap in right, bringing in both Stephens and Winkler.
For good measure, Miami added a single tally in the eighth. Charlie Dauch led off the inning by scorching a double down the left field line on the very first pitch. He was moved to third on a Jordan Stephens single through the right side and brought home on another Texidor sacrifice fly.
The RedHawks begin midweek play Wednesday at Dayton. First pitch is at 3 p.m.
