OXFORD, Ohio - The Miami baseball team fell to Toledo, 8-4, Saturday afternoon on a windy day at McKie Field at Hayden Park.
The Rockets (7-16, 3-2 MAC) got the first run of the contest thanks to a solo blast to right in top of the second. The Red & White (14-9, 3-2 MAC) responded quickly with a single tally in the bottom half of the frame. Hayden Senger and Brooks Urich led off the inning with singles. Then, after back-to-back strikeouts, Dallas Hall delivered with a one-run single through the left side as Senger rounded third and came in to score.
Miami took the lead in the third behind the power of a leadoff double from Ross Haffey, an RBI triple from Landon Stephens and a RBI single from Parker Massman. The inning netted two runs and a 3-1 RedHawk lead through three.
Toledo struck back in the top of the sixth, plating three on a two-run triple and a one-run single, to move back in front 4-3. However, Miami was able to answer again when an error allowed Senger to score from third in the home half of the inning.
The Rockets fired right back in the top of the seventh, lifting a two-run homer over the right field wall to move back ahead 6-4. They would add two insurance runs in the ninth to seal the 8-4 victory.
The rubber match is set for Sunday at 1 p.m.
