OXFORD, Ohio - The RedHawk baseball team had its nine-game win streak snapped when Xavier snuck past Miami, 2-1, at McKie Field in the series opener Friday.
The Red & White drop to 11-4 on the year while the Musketeers improve to 5-12.
Xavier scored in its first chance at the plate. Following a one-out walk, an errant throw on a pickoff attempt allowed the runner to move to second before a single brought him around for a 1-0 Musketeers lead.
Starting pitcher Spencer Mraz settled in after the first, allowing just one more hit the rest of his outing. The sophomore right-hander finished the day with 5.2 innings under his belt with just the one run allowed, which wasn't earned, to go with one strikeout.
After threating a few times prior, Miami finally got a run across to knot things up in the bottom of the fifth. Adrian Texidor ripped a two-out single through the left side, stole second, advanced to third on a wild pitch and touched home thanks to Will Vogelgesang legging out an infield single.
The only other run of the contest came in the top of the eighth when an RBI triple put Xavier back in front, 2-1.
Vogelgesang and Ross Haffey each finished with hulti-hit efforts. Vogelgesang upped his season batting average to .380 while Haffey collected his team-leading seventh double of the year.
The RedHawks and Musketeers continue their series Saturday in Oxford with a 4 p.m. first pitch.
