ATHENS, Ohio - The Miami women's basketball team kept it rolling as it topped rival Ohio on the road, 78-56, to secure the No. 4 seed and a first-round bye straight to Cleveland for next week's Mid-American Conference Tournament.
The win improved the Red & White's record to 19-9 on the year, including a 11-6 mark in conference play. Lauren Dickerson and Kendall McCoy each scored 21 points to lead the effort. In the third quarter, with her fourth make from deep of the game, Dickerson broke the program's single-season three-point field goals made record with her 92nd of the season.
Tied at 5-5 just under two minutes in, the RedHawks closed the first quarter on a 12-2 run to own a 17-7 advantage after 10 minutes and never looked back.
The Bobcats shrunk the deficit to four early in the second but Miami began to pull away behind the power of McCoy, who scored 17 first-half points. The Red & White took a 35-24 lead into the locker room.
MU picked up right where it left off to open the second half. Early makes from Savannah Kluesner, Dickerson, Baleigh Reid, Leah Purvis and McCoy pushed the lead to 17 by the time the teams reached the media timeout 5:13 in.
The RedHawks polished the game off in the fourth, never letting the lead get under 19. The final quarter included the below unreal and-one effort from Dickerson.
Miami earned its third-straight 20-plus point win, overcoming 18 turnovers. The Red & White again showed their ability to share the ball as they notched 19 assists and five players scored at least eight points. The team shot 43.9 percent from the floor and were 12-of-13 at the line.
